Adult Acne

Medical Strength Chemical Peel improves the appearance of photo-aged skin, removes age spots (sun induced freckles) helping to restore the skins youthful and toned appearance. This gentle, non evasive treatment is used to treat the face, chest, neck and hands - virtually anywhere that premature ageing and sun damage is apparent with minimal to medium down-time. A treatment regime consists of multiple treatments scheduled weeks apart to achieve optimal results.  Chemical Peel can successfully reverse the signs of ageing removing age spots, liver spots and rejuvenates areas of sun damage on the skin.

Adult acne affects 25% of all adult men and 50% of adult women at some time in their adult lives. People can develop unpleasant acne for the first time or have an acne recurrence in their 20s-50s. The cause of adult acne is unknown but may include hormones, diet, vitamin deficiency, stress, and can often have a complex multifactorial etiology. The process by which a pimple develops is highly intricate. While we do know that a pore collapses on itself and blocks sebum (oil) from escaping, we do not fully understand why this process takes place in one sebaceous gland and not another.

Rosacea is a disorder that can be confused, and co-exist with acne. Rosacea affects both men & women, but is almost three times more common in women, with a peak age of onset between 30 and 60. Rosacea is a common but often misunderstood condition that is estimated to affect over 45 million people worldwide. It has been nicknamed the 'curse of the Celts' and begins as flushing and redness on the central face and across the cheeks, nose, or forehead. It can also less commonly affect the neck and chest. As rosacea progresses, other symptoms can develop such as semi-permanent erythema, telangiectasia (dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), red domed papules (small bumps) and pustules, red gritty eyes, burning and stinging sensations, and in some advanced cases, a red lobulated nose (rhinophyma).

IPL Laser offers one of the best treatments for rosacea, in particular the erythema (redness) of the skin. IPL laser machines use light to penetrate the epidermis to target the capillaries in the dermis layer of the skin. With a sufficient number of treatments, this method may even eliminate the redness altogether, though additional periodic treatments may be necessary to remove newly-formed capillaries.

We know that IPL Laser greatly improves rosacea. We also know that a combination of chemical peel and/or jet peel can help in the treatment of acne, but since no two acne or rosacea patients are the same, we want to advise patients that a consultation with one of our derma clinicians is key to developing a bespoke plan to combat and treat your own particular case.

At DermaDental we have the tools to help improve and treat adult acne. We use a combination of treatments tailored to your particular case; Medical Strength Glycolic Peel, Medical Strength Easy TCA Peel, Medical Jet Peel & Medical Strength Prescription Skin Care Products all have a role to play in treating and controlling acne and/or rosacea.
