Lip Filler

Do you want the perfect pout?

Lip Filler on lipsNon Surgical Lip Enhancement using dermal filler products is becoming one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in clinics across Ireland today. Previously these treatments were only available for Hollywood & UK Celebrities, and were very costly. In the past two or three years we have seen these treatments become more readily available here in Ireland. Over the past decade there have been various references to ‘Trout Pouts’ but these were as a result of lip enhancements carried out using permanent filler/collagen implants. Today with the emergence of third and indeed fourth generation dermal & lip fillers, one can predictably and safely enhance a persons lips with little fear of ending up with a trout pout, and every chance of having beautiful naturally looking, and minimally obvious looking enhanced lips. If you would like to have a consultation with us please phone 01-667 8000 and we would be happy to discuss your treatment options, and offer you a 100% pain free lip filler treatment.

Would you like the perfect pout?

Lip Filler Clinic IrelandMany people now opt for Lip Filler because they want more volume in their lips; it is an entirely elective cosmetic treatment. Some people choose to have lip filler because they do not like the shape of their lips, often their top lip is very thin, and they want to do increase the volume. Many people also want lip filler treatment to reduce or get rid of those ageing smoker’s lines around the mouth. Many patients now book to have this treatment at lunch time and return to work immediately with no down time.

What constitutes the Perfect Pout?

In an ideal situation where the balance of the lips is favourable, the width of the lips should be equal to the distance between the irises of the eyes. If you divide the distance between the base of the nose and the chin into thirds, then the lips ideally should be about one third of the way between these two anatomical markings. The angle between the base of the nose and the top lip should be circa 98.5-99 degrees. This is an approximation yet apt for most racial groups. Lip Protrusion depends on the depth of soft tissues, lip musculature and the position of your teeth and also the bone structure of the patient.

How should my upper and lower lips compare to each other?

Ideally your upper lip is 2-3 mm in front of your lower lip, and your lower lip should be bigger than your top lip. When adding volume to the lips, it is important to balance volume and symmetry while maintaining a natural look. When sculpting lips it is important that the volume of the upper lip should be less than the lower lip, and both left and right sides of the lip mirror each other.

What can lip fillers do for me?

irish doctor applying lip filler Lip Fillers can achieve ideal balanced lips supporting their natural function, while enhancing their appearance. The use of Lip Fillers is recommended if you wish to make your lips look more plump and contoured. Fuller lips are generally regarded as looking healthier, softer and sexier. Also very importantly lip filler used around the edge of the lips can reduce, and often minimise those vertical smoker or ageing lines that extend vertically upwards from the top lip. Lip Enhancement eliminates wrinkles, creates happy upturned mouth corners and defines the lip lines.

What causes lips to age or get thinner?

As we age lips naturally become thinner, this is due to loss of elastin and collagen due to ageing. In addition lips are under attack daily from sun, wind and pollution. The lips of smokers normally have many vertical lines around the lips. Also present naturally in our bodies from birth is hyaluronic acid. As get older the levels of this naturally occurring product reduce, and so by injecting non animal lip filler products we are simply replenishing these diminished stores because lip filler is made of hyaluronic acid; a naturally occurring product already found in the body.

How much does it cost to have this treatment?

Treatment depends on which product used and how much is used. Typically the cost for an upper lip is €425. This is using either Juvederm of Restylane Lipp which is the safest products on the market, and used daily as gold standard at our clinic. There are cheaper inferior products available but at DermaDental we only use the very best products for our patients. It is also possible to have cheaper treatments in non clinical and non sterile environments on the high street, however we advise you attend a clinic for these treatments. At DermaDental we do not have nurse practitioners administering these treatments. Reassuringly our medical/dental team have all completed additional training in facial aesthetics in world renowned Harley Street, London.

What does the treatment involve?

Before treatment a DermaDental resident dentist will completely numb the area so you will not feel this treatment. When your lips are completely numb lip filler product is injected into the lip using tiny needles. The actual injection time is just a couple of minutes and because you are completely numb in the area you will not feel the treatment.

Dublin Derma Clinic If you attend a DermaDental Clinic for lip enhancement you can expect absolutely no pain during lip filler treatment, because we use DermaDentleGentle dental freeze to ensure 100% pain free lip enhancement.

How long does this treatment take?

This treatment takes about 10 minutes, and we offer DermaDentalGentle dental freeze, administered by one of our resident dentists, at NO extra cost when getting lip filler treatment. At DermaDental we simply don’t do pain.

Will my lips look fake and too big like some Hollywood celebs?

trout pout lips Lip Enhancement eliminates wrinkles, creates happy upturned mouth corners and defines the lip lines. It can also eradicate creases around the mouth while adding volume, and enhancing lips. At DermaDental our ethos is, ‘less is more’ so that our patients have a very natural look after any lip treatment.

What can I have done to make my lips bigger?

Again Dermal Filler is used to volumise lips, and this can be very sore if done without local anaesthetic and so we recommend you take advantage of our DermaDentalGentle dental freeze at NO extra cost to yourself when having your lips done.

Will there be swelling or bruising?

The lip area is highly vascularised with many blood vessels and that is why it swells more than other areas, however we use only the gentlest clinicians and so bruising and swelling tend to be minimal with many of our patients returning to work immediately after treatment. Often taking Arnica 6X tablets before and after lip filler minimises any swelling.

How long does this lip treatment last?

Due to this increased blood supply to the lips the product is broken down quicker in the lip area than anywhere else, and so while you may get 9 months out of dermal filler injected into lines around the mouth, it will not last quite so long in the lips. Duration of effect is entirely individual and there is nothing you can do to prolong the effect.

Do people still get Collagen in their lips?

The demand for collagen fillers is declining rapidly as Collagen is derived from a cow, and now with the emergence of non-animal filler options it is possible to have same day, longer lasting dermal enhancement which also successfully meets patient expectations. At our clinic we favour non animal and non permanent products.

Will I look like I have a ‘Trout Pout’?

lip filler irelandIn the past Collagen was used prior to this new non-animal based products. The demand for collagen fillers is declining rapidly as Collagen is bovine (from cow hide) derived, and now with the emergence of non-animal filler options it is possible to have same day, longer lasting enhancement. The famous ‘Trout Pout’ was as a result of permanent collagen being placed into lips. At DermaDental we do not use permanent products.

There are many different brands currently on the market, at our clinic we use temporary, biodegradable product lasting 4-9 months, after which time the product is naturally broken down by the body.

What products are used to treat the lips?

Juvederm and Restylane products are ideal for enhancing and adding volume to lips. Prior to treatment there is no need for a patch test because these brands are composed of a hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring product already present in the body. These products are not part of an anti wrinkle cream regime, they are injected into the lips using a tiny needle.

What exactly is Hyaluronic Acid?

dr Danielle MeagherHyaluronic acid is found throughout the body and helps maintain volume in the skin by binding to over a thousand times its weight in water. However as we age, and due to sun exposure and other factors the hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases, and the skin loses volume and we end up with wrinkles and lines in and around our mouth.

There are different types of fillers on the market and your treating practitioner will discuss which brand suits your requirements best.

I often get cold sores am I suitable for this treatment?

If you suffer from cold sores, please advise your treating clinician. Your case will be considered and discussed at consultation. We routinely successfully treat patients who do from time to time suffer with cold sores, but we may need to prescribe you some medicine before you get lip filler treatment.

Can I get an allergic reaction to Lip Filler?

A very small percentage of people have a reaction to any aesthetic procedure, the most common is among persons who suffer from cold sores of the face. If you get cold sores it is important to visit our dentist/doctor to get a prescription for a medicine called Acyclovir and to start taking this the day before you have dermal filler. You categorically must finish this course of antibiotics to avoid a cold sore outbreak.
